Practical guide
How to Play 4D Lottery - Beginner's Guide
Choose the number, choose the play type, choose Big or Small, then verify claim rules.
1. Choose 4 digits
A 4D ticket uses a number from 0000 to 9999.
Example ticket
Pick any four digits. 1234, 0007, 8080, and 9999 are all valid examples. Leading zeroes matter, so 0123 is not the same ticket as 1230.
After choosing the number, pick the provider, stake amount (minimum RM1 in Malaysia or S$1 in Singapore), play type, and whether the ticket is Big or Small.
2. Straight versus Box
Straight
Ticket 1234
Wins only when the result shows 1234 in that exact order.
Box
Ticket 1234
Checks the unique permutations, such as 1234, 1243, 1324, and 4321.
iBox
Ticket 1234
Same as Box, but the operator settles permutations at a fixed 4 / 6 / 12 / 24 split. Faster to fill in when your number has repeated digits, but the per-permutation payout shrinks as the split grows.
Box checks permutations, but repeated digits reduce the number of unique permutations. Provider rules and payouts can differ, so read the ticket terms before buying.
3. Big versus Small
This is the coverage decision.
Big
Top 3, Special, Consolation
If 1234 appears under Special, a Big ticket can still be covered.
Small
Top 3 only
If 1234 appears under Special or Consolation, a Small ticket is not covered.
4. Provider differences
Magnum, Sports Toto, Da Ma Cai
Malaysia operators with Top 3, Special, and Consolation result boards.
CashSweep, Sandakan STC, Sabah Lotto88
East Malaysia providers. Check provider, draw date, and claim rules separately.
Singapore Pools
Uses Starter where many Malaysia boards use Special.
Claim caveat
This site helps you read results and estimate whether a number is relevant. It is not the official claim record. For any prize claim, check the official operator result for the same provider, draw date, ticket number, play type, and bet type.
